Let His Enemies Be Scattered

BRD REFLECTIONS:

2 Samuel 1:1-27 and Psalm 68:1-12 (NIV)

(Andrew Tong, SGM Zone Leader)

READ:

Ps 68:1 struck me as I wonder who God’s enemies are in our world today

OBSERVE:

In Psalm 68:1, King David prayed for the enemies of God to be scattered.  In 2 Samuel 1, we read of the fall of King Saul and his son Jonathan. To the Jews, in the ancient times (and even now), it was anyone who persecuted them and/or stopped them from claiming the land God had promised them.  To Jesus’ disciples, it was anyone who opposed them in preaching the gospel.

APPLY:

As I read Ps 68:1 again, I ponder and ask who God’s enemies are in my life.  Satan is the obvious answer, in the form of sin which so easily entangles us.  But I ask myself again, why my own personal prayers never include asking God to scatter His enemies, to have “His foes flee before Him”.  Perhaps it is because I have not joined the battle.  Perhaps I have been too concerned about my personal battles that I have not joined in the battle against God’s enemies.    Maybe it’s time for me to put my personal priorities aside and join in God’s war.  Only then perhaps will I pray, like David, for God’s enemies to be scattered and for God to arise.

DO:

 I will be:

  • Bolder in sharing the gospel both in word and in deed and bemore open in declaring my faith
  • More sacrificial in my service instead of being overly concerned about protecting my time
  • More aware of the spiritual battles that are going on around me

PRAY:

Dear Lord, as unworthy as I am, allow me to join in the battle for You.  Let me be bold for You. May You arise and Your enemies be scattered. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
