Jesus Christ Is My True Hope And Peace
BRD REFLECTIONS:
John 14 and Psalm 68 : 1-18 (NIV)
(Alvin Chia, Lay Leader)
READ:
John 14 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In John 14, the Lord Jesus reminds us that He is sent by the Father. He is the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (v 6).
The Lord also tells us not to let our hearts be troubled, but to believe in God and in Him (v1). As we come to Him, He promises to grant us His peace, a peace that the world cannot give.
APPLY:
Today is Christmas Day. It is my favourite time of the year. It is the season where we get to slow down and take breaks from our work to spend time with family and loved ones.
I love the festivity of the season. Carols are heard in malls. Our outreach programs are packed with Christmas celebrations, the sharing of the Christmas story and the love we share with one another. We get presents and feast with our loved ones and friends. For many years, Christmas was always spent in Thailand as part of my family’s annual mission trip. One of the highlights was spending time with the young children there, singing carols, playing games and just sitting around with the seniors to share our lives.
Amidst the celebration and festivities, I am reminded of my favourite Christmas carol – Christmas Isn’t Christmas, Till It Happens In Your Heart. Christmas is also a time to reflect. 2024 has its valleys and mountain peaks. There are fears and challenges which will linger. I will reflect and hold on to God’s promise, and give thanks for the good and not-so-good moments in 2024.
While the troubles of this world will persist, I am encouraged and reminded that I am not alone. Emmanuel has come. God is with me! Thanks be to God.
DO:
Christmas will be my reminder that the Lord Jesus is our true Hope and Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 : “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.
PRAY:
Father God, thank You for Christmas. Thank You for the greatest gift of Jesus Christ. I am blessed by Your love. May I hold on to You, my true Hope and Peace even as I continue with my journey here on earth. I need You and I love You. May You be my constant source of strength and wisdom. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
