Cultivate A Posture Of Praise And Gratitude

BRD REFLECTIONS:

1 Chronicles 3:1-24; 4:1-43 and Psalm 65:1-13 (NIV)

(Eddy Chan, Associate Pastoral Team Member)

READ:

Psalm 65:1-13 (NIV)
I was particularly inspired by v8, “The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth (inspire) songs of joy.”

OBSERVE:

David begins this psalm by acknowledging that praise belongs to God. David’s act of offering daily praise and worship each day reflects his confidence that if God is for him, nothing that can arise against him shall prosper.

My heart was filled with deep gratitude as I read Psalm 65. The text is a beautiful reminder that God is and will always be faithful. From hearing our prayers to forgiving our sin, from providing for the earth to sustaining our individual lives, every verse of this psalm points to God’s abundant goodness.

APPLY:

As I meditated on the passage, I recalled God’s faithfulness over my life, my family, even during the times I was undeserving. I have only felt His immense love for me. He never fails to see me through challenging times. God has shown Himself faithful on more occasions than I can recall. The irony of it is: I do not have the habit to reciprocate with praise and gratitude as I should. Instead, at the slightest setback, I grumble and complain instead.

In a world full of uncertainties, this psalm is a timely reminder for me to take time each day to pause and reflect on God’s unchanging nature. Truly, He alone is my refuge and strong tower in times of need. I need to grow to trust in His sovereignty over my life and remember to always have a posture of praise and gratitude.

DO:

I will cultivate a heart of praise by regularly setting aside time to worship, read God’s word and pray each day. In my time with God, I want to intentionally remember and offer God praise and worship that is due to Him everyday. I want to cultivate a heart of praise like the Psalmist, whose “songs of joy” echo daily whether in good times or in  bad.

PRAY:

Lord, thank You for reminding me to cultivate a posture of praise and gratitude in good times and also in not so good times. You alone are worthy of all my praise. Thank You for hearing my prayers, providing for my needs, and surrounding me with Your presence each day. Help me to trust You in every season and to always sing of Your goodness. Amen.
