Luke 2 and Psalm 15 (NIV)

(Michael Chiam from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Luke 2 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In Luke 2, Mary experiences two tender moments in which she “treasured” and “pondered” the events unfolding around her. The first occurs after the shepherds relay what the angels had told them about Jesus. The second takes place when young Jesus stays behind in the temple and says, “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” In both moments, Mary quietly holds these experiences in her heart—reflecting deeply on their meaning.

APPLY:

In both instances, something significant happens in the present—an encounter—that prompts Mary to treasure what God had done in the past and to ponder what it might mean for the future. This resonates deeply with me.

Not long ago, I was involved in a project that faced unexpected challenges. Some team members walked away, and I found myself feeling discouraged and abandoned. In the midst of my despair, the Lord gently reminded me: You are My beloved. I am with you—as I have always been. I began to treasure past moments when God had shown up faithfully in my life, and I pondered how He would lead me as I navigated this storm.

As I walk this uncertain road, the Lord continues to meet me—through a timely verse, a worship song, or even a small miracle that lifts my heart. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m learning to rest in the assurance that the God who has been faithful before will see me through again.

DO:

I will:

  1. Pause daily to reflect on my day and recognize God’s goodness at work.
  2. Treasure these memories—perhaps by journaling them—so that they become a reservoir of encouragement when challenges arise.

PRAY:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being near—even when I don’t sense You right away. Teach me to draw close—quietly treasuring and pondering every way You’ve guided, comforted, and strengthened me. May these reflections deepen my hope and keep me grounded in Your steadfast love. You alone are faithful. Make my heart like Mary’s—rich in remembrance and full of trust for what lies ahead. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
