Living A Life Of Discipleship
BRD REFLECTION 2025
(Tracey Lee from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
This devotion focuses on Isaiah 2.
OBSERVE:
This passage starts off with the promise of Jerusalem becoming the centre of God’s physical reign on earth and nations will come here to learn His wonderful ways.
It is a time of peace when wars will cease for good as God administers justice perfectly.
However, before that day comes, there is a list of sins that God’s people – the house of Jacob – are indulging in. By extension, this applies to the unbelieving world that is full of pride and arrogance. These sins are turning away from God, relying on human advisors, relying on all kinds of alliances and trade, waging war and indulging in idolatrous thoughts and actions.
How can I have the fortitude to see God’s hand in today’s tumultuous events?
APPLY:
I was led to see that I need a life of discipleship in order to have a disciplined mind. In line with our church’s theme of discipleship, I came across this teaching from Dallas Willard, “The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus’s Essential Teachings on Discipleship” which I rephrase here:
Non-discipleship results in the loss of:
i. abiding peace
ii. a life penetrated throughout by love
iii. faith that sees everything in the light of God’s overriding governance for good
iv. hopefulness that stands firm in the most discouraging of circumstances
v. power to do what is right and withstand the forces of evil.
DO:
I will refrain from immediately forming emotional or impulsive reactions to events and instead turn to God to give me a heavenly perspective of where things are headed in this world.
By God’s grace, I will take an active part to pray for God’s Kingdom to be seen in me and society as part of Wesley Church’s emphasis on Discipleship in Society for 2025.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the vision of the day when You will take Your rightful place in this world. In the midst of troubled times, grant me the strength and grace to be a disciple of Yours so that I can trust Your mighty hand at work. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for empowering me.
I praise You for the assurance of the ultimate establishment of Your Kingdom as I ask this in Christ’s Name, Amen.
