Be A Joyful Co-worker In Christ

LENT 2024 | DAY 10

Mark 4:26-34 (NIV)

(Josephine Loo, Chairperson, Property Management)

To me, the kingdom of God is the sphere where God is in control as the Emmanuel and everything in it is designed according to His plan. These two parables illustrate to us God’s intended purpose for us on Earth, which is to fulfil God’s will.

The parable of the growing seed describes the farmer’s intention to multiply the crop. Once the sowing is done, the seed undergoes the transformation according to the way God planned it. And when the time is up, it is ready for harvest. Similarly, for the mustard seed, its destiny is to grow into a large tree which can provide shade for birds that perch on it.

In my work, I need to recognise my place in God’s greater scheme of things. As I carry out my job and tasks, I am only setting in motion the will that God has for me, which is to use my expertise and skills to do the work. Behind that, God has a plan for the work. How the work progresses with my participation as well as contributions from various colleagues or consultants, is according to God’s will. At times, I need to learn to adjust and modify the way I carry out my task because it benefits the project.

Many times at work, things may move differently from the way I imagined or planned. But I need to remind myself that God has already got a plan for it and I am only given a chance to participate. It can also happen even without my involvement. I only need to play my part and leave God to move the rest.

As I carry on my work in my capacity, the other aspect I am reminded of is to carry out my work in a joyful way. As my actions can reflect my posture in Christ, the manner in which I carry out my dealings will affect how others view Christians. So let us be joyful co-workers  in Christ, to fulfil our destiny and God’s will.

DISCUSSION POINTERS:

1.   What motivates you to do the “everyday” tasks well?

2.   Do you want to be a cheerful co-worker in Christ?

3.   Recognising your part in God’s plan, what can you do to reflect that in your work?

Note: Mark 4:35-41 will be the Scripture passage for the sermons on Sunday, 25 February 2024.
