Rejoice, For God Will Do It!

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Psalm 14 and Luke 1:57-80 (NIV)

(Cecil Chee from Children’s Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 14 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Verses 1–3: David laments the folly of those who deny God. Their vile deeds reflect deep corruption. God Himself has seen that no one seeks Him; not one does good.

Verses 4–6: The corruption is from within; Israelites who exploit fellow countrymen, never seeking the LORD. This is the state of His people. Amid this injustice, David discovers God is not absent; He champions the downtrodden through the faithful; these are His righteous who stand for the victimised.

Verse 7: Awakened to God’s heart in what He is doing, David is confident that God alone is preparing a final and permanent salvation for His people.

APPLY:

Initially, I read Psalm 14 with cynicism—another lament about a broken world. “So, what’s new?” I thought. Noting my own apathy, I prayed for fresh eyes and a second reading revealed David’s deeper message.

David wasn’t ranting—he was witnessing. He acknowledged his helplessness as a king, serving his God rejected by His people. As a man, his task was impossible, but he saw God’s presence among the faithful. Imperfect though they were, God worked His grace on and through them to be His righteousness in a world blind to God. David saw God’s heart purpose in this: a foreshadowing of the full and everlasting salvation He would bring. God WILL fully and finally restore His people!

As a child of God, I’m not without power or purpose in a world still plagued by injustice. He purposes me to grow into His marvellous likeness when I rely on the Holy Spirit in me to be compassion, justice, and wisdom to the suffering, victimised and hopeless. To obey God is also to see and partner with Him!

DO:

How often have I opened, perhaps even barged into God’s Word without first sitting at Jesus’s feet in humble worship, awe and stillness? I will do better to prepare for this daily time with my Father in Heaven.

PRAY:

Father God, thank You for protecting this time with You, and refreshing me through Your Psalmist this weekday. That wonderful day of salvation David was so sure that You would bring about, we now know it has come through Your Son, Jesus.

With this privilege to tell of the good news, Holy Spirit, be my wisdom and strength. In Your mercy, may my heart be softened to receive Your truth. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
