BRD REFLECTION 2025

Revelation 12 and Psalm 133 (NIV)

(William Goh from COSC/WBOP)

READ:

Psalm 133:1-3 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

In Psalm 133, David highlighted the preciousness and pleasantness of unity in serving God. Unity was compared to precious oil (v2) that was used by Moses to anoint Aaron as the first high priest of Israel (Exodus 29.7). It was also likened to the far-reaching fresh dew from the majestic Mount Hermon of Zion. (v3).

APPLY:

Psalm 133 reminded me of how serving in unity honours and delights God. As I reflected, there were many heartwarming experiences of co-workers and family members committing to staying united to overcome challenges. On the other hand, there were also occasions when I was disappointed by how seemingly trivial differences had caused discord and eventually resulted in broken relationships.

As I serve with the Wesley befrienders to the elderly, I am blessed to witness how unity among the volunteers has made our service both fruitful and enjoyable. There were numerous occurrences when the teams worked cohesively as one body in Christ to address unexpected challenges in our planning and organising events for the elderly.

There was an occasion when a miscommunication with the caterer I coordinated with resulted in no food at an event. I was truly touched when my team swung into action in unity, with some helping to entertain our elderly friends with extended impromptu activities (trying hard to hide their anxious looks), whilst others  rushed out to buy food from the nearby hawker centre. By God’s grace, we were able to enjoy the sumptuous hawker fare lunch with only a slight delay.

DO:

I will:

  • Pray for the unity of my small group and Wesley Befrienders (COSC/WBOP)
  • Seek God’s empathy and wisdom to understand and resolve differences in opinion
  • Seek God’s courage to be a peacemaker when the unity of a team is being jeopardised

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word on how our service in unity delights You. I pray that You will help me to be mindful of Your will when I serve You. May You grant me empathy and gentleness when I interact with my co-workers. Please also grant me the courage and wisdom to be the peacemaker in situations when unity is at risk. Allow the unity in our service to be the reflection of Your love and glory to the world. Amen.
