Living Intentionally For God

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Luke 24 and Psalm 39 (NIV)

(Richard Thong from Discipleship and Nurture)

READ:

Psalm 39 and Luke 24 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 39:5 , reflecting the brevity of life, reminds me of Psalm 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom”.

For Luke 24, the following verses stand out for me:

  • “He is not here; but He has risen!” (v6)

The resurrection of Jesus is indeed the cornerstone of my faith.

  • Jesus appeared to the two disciples on the way to Emmaus (v13-35)

“He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures” (v27).

  • Jesus appeared to the apostles (v36-49)

After Jesus appeared to His disciples, He commissioned them to be His witnesses. “You are witnesses of these things” (v48).

  • Jesus’ ascension to Heaven (v50-53)

“While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven” (v51).

APPLY:

Psalm 39:4-5 shows how fleeting and fragile earthly life is. But in the following reflections from Luke 24, I am reminded of Christ’s resurrection and love for His believers that give eternal hope beyond the brevity of this earthly life:

  • v13-35: Jesus gives hope

As a child of God, I am deeply comforted that Jesus is always with me – even when I fail to recognise His presence.  Just as He walked alongside the two disciples in their confusion and sorrow, He also walks beside me in my moments of doubt, confusion, despair and uncertainty. His presence brings hope and His shalom peace, reminding me that I am never alone.

  • v36-49: We are His witnesses

As Jesus affirmed  His disciples as witnesses, I am also called to share His resurrection hope with others.

  • v50-53: Jesus ascended to Heaven and will return

His ascension and promise that He will return (Acts 1:11) fills me with hope and motivates me to live faithfully and persevere till the end.

DO:

I want to:

• Live life intentionally and thank God for each new day, and to remember that Christ is risen and I am His.

• Walk faithfully in the ways of Jesus.

• Share the resurrection hope of the Good News with others who have yet to hear of Jesus.

• Stay faithful till the end by resting in God’s peace, grace, and trusting in His providence daily.

PRAY:

Lord, life is brief but in Christ I have eternal hope. Help me to walk faithfully with You each day and share the hope of Your resurrection with others. In Jesus’ name, I pray.  Amen.
