Malachi 1 and Psalm 52 (NIV)

READ:

Malachi 1:11 – My name will be great among the nations, from where the sun rises to where it sets. In every place incense and pure offerings will be brought to me, because my name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD Almighty.

Psalm 52:7-8 – “Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!” But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.

OBSERVE:

Today’s passages show God’s faithful love to those He has chosen and those who obey His commandments. He will remind and instruct them of His faithfulness even when they disobey and show Him contempt. For the Hebrews, they defiled their offerings to God. In Psalm 52, David warned Doeg the Edomite, who killed the priests and their families under Saul’s instruction, that the omniscient and omnipresent God sees all the evil he was doing. David placed his trust in God and was like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God, whereas to those who love evil, God will bring everlasting ruin.

APPLY:

The applications for me in today’s passages are:

  1. God’s faithfulness will never change and He will never forsake those He loves. Like David, even though he was already anointed as the next king, He waited patiently for God’s perfect timing, even fleeing for his life, and did not kill Saul when he had the chance. His obedience and patience in the LORD is a good lesson for me.
  2. Do not show contempt. Our God is an omniscient God and He knows our hearts and our every thought. Because of greed, the Hebrews gave God inferior offerings, offerings that they would not dare give to their superiors. What am I giving in return for the salvation God has given us through His crucified Son? Sacrificial service that will cost me but will also free me to love.
  3. Don’t be like Doeg, a godless and heartless, selfish person. Be ready to help others just as God has helped me in so many situations and will continue to be by my side, lifting me up when I fall and protecting me from dangers, within me and externally.

DO:

Surrender my innermost secrets and idols to God and be free from them eternally. Place my trust in Him and be patient as only God knows His perfect timing. Wait for His calling for me to serve Him sacrificially as I know He will first prepare and empower me for the calling, just as He prepared David to be the greatest King of Israel and the world.

PRAY:

Abba Father, you are indeed kind and merciful! We thank you and praise you for your unending love and patience towards us, dHeavenly Father, my beloved God, thank You for Your amazing grace through Your precious Son and the ever-present Spirit to help me and my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to live a life worthy of Your calling. We are weak but Thou art strong and our trust and love for You will be our Light and Power in our faith journey. Grant us Your faithfulness and grace always so that we may all be Your good and faithful servants when we meet You again. In the wondrous and precious name of Jesus, Amen.
