BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 60 and Psalm 141 (NIV)

(Walter Lim from Prayer & Praise Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 141 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

This is an honest, yet beautiful, prayer from King David during a time full of temptations, not unlike the times we live in today. He identified that the heart wanders and is “drawn to what is evil”(v4). Oftentimes, the ways of the world are tempting, just like the “delicacies” (v4) that may initially look good but are not truly what God has in store for me. It is only through fixing my eyes on the Lord (v8) that I may find refuge from the distractions and noise leading my heart astray.

APPLY:

In this passage, I am reminded of my inclination to sin and fall away from the Lord. I am either placing my hopes and trust in Him, focusing on His ways, or I am actively turning towards the world, believing that its “delicacies” would fill me. There is no middle ground, no compromise. Do I truly surrender my life to God? Do I entrust my decisions to prayerful consideration, or do I just follow the wide path that others take?

As Jesus said in Luke 9:23 (NIV):

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross dailyand follow me.”

I need to actively pray against things/mindsets that turn me away from God, while also consciously finding ways to live in obedience to the Spirit.

DO:

  1. Identify worldly “delicacies” in my life that I should stop consuming, to turn back to the Lord in surrender and repentance.
  2. Fix my eyes on God through daily disciplines of prayer and reading of His Word.

PRAY:

Dear Lord, I am sorry that I lost sight of You, turned away from You, and looked to the world. You are relentlessly seeking me despite my brokenness, and the only One who can satisfy and uphold me. Thank You for being my source of strength and refuge in the midst of the noise and distractions of life. MayYou give me daily opportunities to choose You and turn away from the temptations of this world. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
