When My Faith Is Challenged

BRD REFLECTIONS:

1 Samuel 25:1-44; 26:1-25 and Psalm 62 (NIV)

(Barnabas Ng, Disciple Facilitator)

READ:

1 Samuel 25:1-44; 26:1-25 and Psalm 62 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

“When it rains it pours.  Maybe the art of life is to convert tough times to great experiences; we can choose to hate the rain or dance in it.” – Joan F. Marques.

Perhaps this sentiment  was going through David’s mind when he wrote Psalm 62.  While there is no record about the specific setting for this Psalm, we know that David was facing intense opposition from enemies who were attempting to dethrone him (Psalm 62: 3-4). He offers three  steps for us to take when we feel overwhelmed and lost.

  • WAIT “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence” (v5) – For when we wait in quiet, we can still our anxious heart and quieten our mind. And it is in those quiet moments that we are able to reflect on who God is and His assurance that He has provided for us.
  • TRUST “Trust in him at all times, O people” (v8) – We put Christ (T) before and after every situation that we are in, remembering that God is our Refuge as we lean on His Understanding and Surrender our anxiety to Him.
  • HEAR “Once God has spoken, twice have I heard this” (v11) – We hear and understand the emphasis of God’s word.  God’s words of power and promise concerning His steadfast love are always there to be our source of strength and comfort in challenging times.

APPLY:

Therefore: –

  • BE STILL – Wait in silence. Remember who God is, remember what Christ has suffered and what He has done for us at the Cross.
  • Trust – Let Go and Let God.
  • Hear – Dwell on His Word. Allow God’s words of promise and steadfast love to be instilled in our heart and soul.

DO:

I will learn to surrender my anxieties and circumstances to God, knowing that He alone is my rock, and my salvation, my fortress that shall not be shaken.

PRAY:

Lord, let thy strength be made perfect in my weakness. I confess that so often I allow my circumstances to cast doubt on Your goodness and love for me. May my soul wait upon thee in silence and find rest in thy fortress and thy refuge. Amen.
