Delighting In His Word

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Proverbs 24:23-34 and Psalms 119:17-32 (NIV)

(Grace Tham from BRD Core Team)

READ:

Psalms 119:17-32 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

These two sections in Psalm 119 reflect how important God’s Word to the psalmist was, clearly seen in the way it permeated all aspects of his life. To him, the Word of God was a guide (v19), offered protection from his enemies (v21-23), was a source of joy (v24), provided strength for his weary soul (v28) and kept him from wrongdoing (v29).

APPLY:

Today’s reflection has led me to ponder over some soul-searching questions. What is the role of God’s Word in my life? How much priority do I give to reading and meditating on His Word? How far do I allow  God’s Word to guide every aspect of my life – my personal walk with God, my family, work and ministry? I must confess that in the busyness of life, intentional reflection and meditating on God’s Word is often pushed aside for other commitments and pursuits, ironically, even for ministry duties. I am reminded to re-order my priorities to allow God’s Word to come first.

But I should not see this as a chore or task on my list of things to tick off. Instead, like the psalmist who found God’s statutes a delight, I want to find it a joy to read His Word and open my eyes to the wonderful things in His law, to be excited about what He wants to say to me in my daily devotions and run in the path of His commands. In doing so, I will experience the deep satisfaction of communing with my Heavenly Father and knowing His will for me.

DO:

I will:

  1. Make it a priority to reflect more deeply on God’s Word in my daily devotions by taking time to allow God to speak to me.
  2. Ask God to open my eyes to the wonderful things in His law and obey them.

PRAY:

Abba Father, thank  You that  You love me so much that  You want to speak to me through Your Word. Thank  You for the reminder to reflect on and delight in Your life-giving Word and law. Forgive me for the many times I have not made this a priority. May I find joy in communing daily with  You through Your Word and following  Your law.
