God’s Mercy
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Revelation 9 and Psalm 130 (NIV)
(Yap Hon Chong from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 130 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Psalm 130 is an individual lament, expressing repentance and trust in God’s mercy. The psalm helps us to overcome the depths of misery over sin, to confession of it (v3-4), to hope (v5-6) and assurance (v7-8). The tone is urgent and the topic is my pleas for mercy.
APPLY:
Psalm 130 leads me to acknowledge my sinful nature. It shows me my need to acknowledge my sins and seek forgiveness from the Lord and repent daily. I want to lead a holy life according to His Word. If God kept my iniquities in a record book, no matter how faithful I am, I could not withstand His wrath. And yet with the Lord’s forgiveness, I who am faithful will be forgiven. Hence, I praise the Lord, worship and revere Him.
I need to earnestly wait for the Lord to hear me. My hope and my assurance is from the Lord Jesus Christ whose steadfast love and sacrifice has delivered me from the penalty my sin deserved. So I readily acknowledge my dependence on God’s mercy and grace.
DO:
I will:
- Live a righteous life according to His Word. Always align my ways with God’s value. And flee from temptation.
- Act justly and walk humbly. Always treat everyone kindly and respectfully as was Christ’s way.
PRAY:
Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace towards me, a sinner. Thank You for Your forgiveness and for redeeming me from my iniquities so that I can be with You in eternal life. Continue to guide me Lord as I walk with You so that through You I can point people to You. Give me the desire to know and love You more each day, that I may be more like You and bring more people to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
