The Light That Drives Out Darkness

OBSERVE:
God is described as light in the passage above. The light represents purity, holiness, and truth. There is absolutely no darkness in Him.
APPLY:
A few weeks ago, I attended an “Inner Healing” ministry weekend. As the prayer minister was praying over me, I saw a vision of myself in a very dark room with no windows. There was only a single fireplace with a very weak fire that did not provide enough illumination to show me where I was or what was in the room. I could sense that Jesus was in the room and as I handed over my personal burdens, oppression and strongholds, light quickly filled the entire room. The light was so bright that it lit up every corner of the room; every single furnishing in the room was clearly seen. It was so bright that not even a shadow was found; even the light coming from the fireplace became invisible.
I realize that people accumulate a lot of darkness through news on social media, movies that we watch, people that we interact with. This accumulation can often go unnoticed as it accumulates slowly and will inevitably affect us as we live in the world.
John reminds us that when we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
I have learnt that it is important to be mindful of this and constantly hand over this burden to God so that I can continue to live in His light.
DO:
I will:
- be mindful of the things that my senses (sight, sound, smell, touch) are consuming every day. Philippians 4:8-9 tells us whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
- Pray and ask for His light to come into my life. Make it a daily practice to ask God to help me walk in His light—living honestly, pursuing holiness, and confessing my sins quickly.
PRAY:
Father, thank You for being the light in my life. I acknowledge that in You there is no darkness at all. Help me to walk in Your light, confessing my sins and living in the truth. Thank You for the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood that restores my fellowship with You and others. Guide my steps today so I may reflect Your holiness and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
