Obstacle Or Channel?

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 57 and Psalm 137 (NIV)

(Chua Chi Siong from Companions in Christ)

READ:

Isaiah 57 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

God confronted the people of Judah who forsook Him and persisted in pursuing  false gods, even to the extent of sacrificing their children (verse 5). He proclaimed that they would only receive false hope, would not have any rest and gain no peace for all their efforts.

From verses 13b-18, God issued a series of astounding promises to whoever would humble themselves and take refuge in Him. He called for building up and preparing the way, and removal of any obstacles, for He as our Holy, Eternal God will turn from His anger and dwell amongst His people, bringing healing, guidance, comfort and peace.

APPLY:

God led me to reflect on how I often prioritise seeking worldly recognition and achievements. Often, I return from work exhausted and drained, and then seek escape in social media and the digital world, failing to treasure the family He has given me and to provide them with spiritual leadership and love.

I felt God asking me a soul-searching question – am I an obstacle or channel to my family and to those seeking God? I must surely be a channel. I want to allow God to empower me in my different roles at work and in my family so that I will be a conduit of grace and not an obstacle to those seeking God.

DO:

I repent. . With the power  of His Holy Spirit, I will  make godly choices and live anew.

At home, I will share God’s faithfulness with my family when we gather for sharing and prayer.

In this Christmas season, I will ask for God’s guidance and boldness to share the gospel of love and hope with those whom He has placed upon my heart to invite to Wesley’s Christmas service.

PRAY:

Dear Jesus, Emmanuel,

As I see the futility of what the world offers and the truth of what it takes away from me, I come to You in repentance and receive Your gift of life. You are always with me. Help me abide in You so that in all my choices, my words and actions, I can demonstrate Your love, build up those You have placed under my care and reach out to share Your gospel. In Your Holy Name. Amen.
