OBSERVE and APPLY:
These passages resonate deeply with me as they brought back memories of the days I attended church while being a non-believer.
I grew up in a traditional Chinese family and it was my girlfriend Angie (now my wife) who brought me to Wesley Church services, including the Candle Light and Watch Night services.
I attended church for many years, even when Angie was overseas for work. My first encounter with God (my first calling) came when I attended a service alone. I accepted Christ and let Jesus come into my life. Amen! I became a Christian.
As a couple, Angie and I were baptised in 2006. We served in Church in various capacities: Camp Committee (in charge of Fun Night), Marriage Enrichment Retreat Committee, Small Group (SG) core team and SG Zone core team (Verse 35).
As a new Christian, I encountered God (my second calling) during a Sunday service when God answered our prayers directing me to leave my 15 years in IT, to venture into the unchartered territory of real estate (verse 4). Two days later on a Tuesday, God sent a Christian couple from the real estate industry to lead me.
After more than fifteen years in real estate, in a worldly marketplace full of challenges, greed and temptations, I am constantly reminded to “live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned” (verse 17).
Although The Lord didn’t promise gold and silver, I shall obey Him and keep my covenant (Exodus 19:5).
The comfort of God comes in the hymn, “Trust and Obey”. The same hymn played during the Sunday service when I received my second calling.
As a couple and as a family, we shall focus on God’s words and works.
DO:
As a disciple, I will continue to learn through reading the bible and attending bible study classes.
To be teachable like clay and to become what the Lord wants me to be. Isaiah 64:8, “… We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand”.
As a couple, we will continue to serve in church and let God bless and touch others through us.
PRAY:
Heavenly Father,
I pray that you will continue to watch over us as a family, bless our marriage with Your presence as we love and take care of one another. Bless me and watch over me as you open doors for me in my daily life and in the marketplace. Mold me, grant me the wisdom and know-how for the tasks you have assigned me and that I will carry these without fear and doubt as sung in “Trust and Obey”.
Bless each reader with a unique takeaway.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
