Apple Of Your Eye

BRD REFLECTIONS

Genesis 22; Psalm 17 (NIV)

(Angelyn Peh, Associate Lay Leader)

READ:

Genesis 22; Psalm 17 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

1. In Psalm 17, David, who was in great distress and danger because of the wickedness of his enemies, cried to GOD, his sure refuge, to deliver him out of all danger. He even described the characteristics of his enemies as a reason to ask GOD to protect and save him.

I am especially encouraged by David’s prayer in verse 8:

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.

2. In Genesis 22, in a test of Abraham’s faith and obedience, God commands him to kill and offer his son Isaac as a burnt sacrifice. This is terrible! However, Abraham sets out to obey without any hesitation, trusting GOD’s faithfulness and love. Having had confirmation of Abraham’s faith, God replaces Isaac with a ram. Because of Abraham’s obedience, God’s promises of Blessing, multiplied offspring, and victory over generations.

In Genesis 22:14, “Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means ‘the LORD will provide’). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: ‘On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.’”

APPLY:

1. My husband and I lead a small group named “Apple of Your Eye”. Our dear brothers and sisters call it “AYE”. We came together as a small group after the “Meet Jesus Campaign” and  had been meeting faithfully every month in Church until COVID hit.  Despite almost no physical meetings in the past two years, we have desired to praise the LORD who has granted us loving hearts to  care for and support one another. He has strengthened our faith through sincere prayers and the sharing of encouraging verses. Today, as I share this devotion, I am reminded to send my love to all my dear AYE brothers and sisters!

During the past two roller coaster years of business life, I have experienced many scary nights when the future seemed so uncertain and I truly did not know what to expect the next day.  I cried endless prayers like David, “KEEP ME AS THE APPLE OF YOUR EYE; HIDE ME IN THE SHADOW OF YOUR WINGS.”

I notice “the apple of your eye” also appears in the following two places:

Deuteronomy 32:10, “In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye.”

Proverbs 7:2, “Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.”

2. “Yahweh-Yireh will provide.” This is the covenant I have proclaimed daily over the past two years. We are truly amazed by HIS provision. God has never come up short. Instead He has provided us with more than what we need.

DO:

  1. The world is full of challenges in this digital generation. I shall continue to pray and trust in GOD’s protection, for we are all the apple of Your eye.
  2. Be courageous, be HIS angel to bless others with the abundant blessings from Yahweh Yireh.

PRAY:

Almighty GOD, you hear my prayers daily and never forsake me. I thank you for your love and protection even when I am lost.  Please let me have the faith of Abraham and strengthen me when I grow weary. Let me protect others like they are the apple of Your eye just as you have protected me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
