Work And Idleness
BRD REFLECTIONS:
2 Thessalonians 3 and Psalm 83 (NIV)

OBSERVE:
In 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15, Paul warned against idleness. While charity is a crucial aspect of Christian living, it is not meant to be given out blindly or foolishly. Paul said, in no uncertain terms, that those who claimed to be believers yet exhibited laziness or “idleness” are to be avoided, not enabled. As a counter-example, Paul pointed to his own testimony among the believers of Thessalonica. He demonstrated a selfless work ethic. He provided for himself as much as possible. His instruction is clear: those who are able, but unwilling to work, should not be coddled by giving them charity.
APPLY:
We are taught in 2 Thessalonians 3 that as Christians, we are to have good work ethics and not be lazy. While we are taught to put all our trust in our Lord, this does not mean we are to do nothing and wait for things to happen.
DO:
As a disciple of Christ, I will do my best to work hard, both in the marketplace and when serving in Church. As we wait for the second coming of Christ, we shall not let idleness set in even when we are tired.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your wonderful teaching and pray that You will give us the strength and energy to work hard and serve your purpose.
