BRD REFLECTION 2026

1 Corinthians 16:1-9 and Psalm 27:1-6 (NIV)

(Andrew Lim from Prayer & Praise)

READ:

Psalm 27:1-6 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

David was probably writing this psalm under duress from enemies and adversities. He starts by acknowledging his fear but also recognising that God is his stronghold and security. He doesn’t ask God to take away his problems and threats to his life. Instead, he expresses this one deep desire to stay close to God, to dwell in His presence, and to be enthralled by His beauty forever. To be in God’s love is to be in a safe harbour. The psalm ends in triumph with an emphasis on worship in the form of shouts of joy, singing and music as God is exalted.

APPLY:

Recently, I watched the new animated movie based on the life of David with my kids in the cinema. Amidst the catchy songs and realistic-looking animation, I was struck by the scene where the Amalekites had imprisoned David’s family, and they continued to worship and sing aloud even while bound up. This resulted in an eventual triumph over their enemies as they were rescued by team David. While the rescue probably didn’t actually happen this way, it reminded me of the power of worship and how worship is a weapon against the devil, against my fear, and against my sinful nature.

Exalting God with praise whether it be in prayer or in song reminds me that my God is sovereign over all and that I am safe in His arms when everything around me seems to be crumbling. Worship draws me close to God and rescues me from despair the same way it had helped the psalmist. There is hope and something greater to look forward to promised by our loving God!

DO:

I will:

  1. Learn to dwell in His presence and enjoy sitting at His feet as a way to be refreshed and strengthened to fight the good fight.
  2. Make seeking and praising God a priority in my prayers every day, and not just make petitions.

PRAY:

I praise You O God for You are mighty, loving, and wondrous. Thank You for dying on the cross for me and saving me from myself. Help me to love You for You first and foremost and not for the things You can do for me. You created me to worship You and I pray that I can live out this purpose You have for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
