GOD, THANK YOU!
BRD REFLECTIONS:
Psalm 136 (NIV)
(Wong Ee Hwee, W&M PTM)
READ:
Psalm 136 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
- v1-3: Give thanks, give thanks, give thanks to the LORD, the God of gods, the Lord of lords.
- v4-25: Descriptions of God and His deeds
- v26: Give thanks to the God of heaven!
4 to him alone who does great wonders
5 who by his understanding made the heavens,
6 who spread out the earth upon the waters,
7 who made the great lights—
8 the sun to govern the day,
9 the moon and stars to govern the night;
10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
11 and brought Israel out from among them
12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
13 to him who divided the Red Sea asunder
14 and brought Israel through the midst of it
15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;
16 to him who led his people through the wilderness;
17 to him who struck down great kings,
18 and killed mighty kings—
19 Sihon king of the Amorites
20 and Og king of Bashan—
21 and gave their land as an inheritance,
22 an inheritance to his servant Israel.
23 He remembered us in our low estate
24 and freed us from our enemies.
25 He gives food to every creature.
26 Give thanks to the God of heaven.
The God of heaven is an active God who creates, strikes down evil, saves, divides the Red Sea, gives, remembers, and frees us from our enemies. He is the God who gives food to every creature.
What is our response? Give thanks. Give thanks. Give thanks. Give thanks! For His mercies and steadfast love endures forever!
APPLY:
Give thanks to the LORD.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
Give thanks to the Lord of Lords.
To You, who have called me out of darkness into Your wonderful light;
To You, who brought me low so that I know You and Your holy ways;
To You, who sustained me when I was down and out;
To You, who led me through the desert, and helped me discovered springs along the way;
To You, who enabled me to think, feel, speak, read, and write;
To You, who enabled me to breathe and to eat;
To You, my God, my Maker, Redeemer, and Strength;
I give You thanks,
for Your mercies and steadfast love endures forever!
DO:
In difficult times, I will continue to give thanks because God is worthy. I will continue to give thanks because God’s mercies are new every morning. He sustains the lowly and the weary. Because of God’s steadfast love, I can place my trust in him in all circumstances and give thanks.
PRAY:
Thank you, LORD, for saving me out of darkness and giving me life. Thank you, God, for opening my eyes, and giving me the faith to receive Your eternal light and life. Thank you, God, for all the seasons You have brought me through and are leading me towards – through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, may I continue to give thanks in all circumstances.
