Sow With Tears, Sow With God
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Revelation 6 and Psalm 126 (NIV)
(Dunstan Lee from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 126:5 (NIV)
Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
OBSERVE:
Three words speak to me, at first in an almost uncomfortable way – “sow with tears”. I imagine someone working in a field, hurting and crying, and yet still planting seeds. There is pain, yet this is also work that needs to be done. What’s more, this work of sowing doesn’t bring immediate harvest, which makes it even more challenging. But the rest of the verse brings a promise – “…will reap with songs of joy”. Here, I see that all will not be in vain, for there will be a harvest that is worth more than any ordinary celebration.
APPLY:
God is reminding me today that despite the challenges I will face in my life, He will give me the strength and courage to keep doing His work. He cannot promise me a life without suffering, but He can promise me that nothing done for Him is ever wasted. He promises to work through my work for Him, no matter how insignificant I think my sowing might be.
DO:
In my prayers, I will dedicate time to ask God for clarity on the work He wants me to do, so that my focus is not on just myself and my needs.
PRAY:
Dear God, You are a Father who knows every tear I cry, every hurt I feel. You know just how difficult it is to keep sowing, to keep doing Your work, especially when the storms hit. So I give thanks for Your powerful assurance today, trusting that You will give me the strength, courage and peace to keep sowing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
