Adoring And Praising God

BRD REFLECTIONS:

2 Kings 11:1-21 and Psalm 100 (NIV)

(Ng Boon Thiam, Mandarin Ministry)

READ:

Ps 100:1-5
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.

OBSERVE:

This short Psalm reveals what true praise and adoration look like, a heart posture that genuinely acknowledges God as Lord and loving Him for who He is. This Psalm paints a picture of joy, trust, gratitude and rest, immersed in the character, ways and worthiness of God.

I must confess that adoring God doesn’t come easily to me. Using the ACTS structure of prayer , it’s easy enough to do my Confession, Thanksgiving and invariably Supplication, but I often flounder at Adoration. How do I really adore Him without sounding as if I’m just going through the motions?

APPLY:

The Lord God, the King of Glory, is worthy of my adoration and praise. He calls me His own and has given me His greatest gift, which is Himself. Because of my position in Christ, I can freely enter into His presence to praise and adore Him, regardless of how I feel or what my circumstances are. Nothing could be more natural, because like all creation, adoring Him is what I was made for, and invited to do and enjoy.

DO:

Adoration is a tremendous privilege, but like other aspects of prayer, it requires commitment. I will contemplate on the Lord’s beneficent attributes, and ascribe to Him the glory due His name. I will bless His name and remember His benefits. I will devote time for intimacy with Him and be wary of things that absorb my will and hinder my relationship with Him.

PRAY:

Lord God, create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit, that I may truly worship and adore You in spirit and in truth. May my quiet time of prayer and adoration be reflected in my life and walk with You, in loving and serving You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
