Jesus At The Centre Of It All
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Corinthians 3:1-15 and Psalm 10:1-11 (NIV)

READ:
1 Corinthians 3:1-15 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
Paul called out the church’s worldliness, as seen in their jealousy and quarrelling among each other (vv. 1-4). He stressed that despite all the church’s efforts and labour, only God deserved the glory and credit for any fruit and growth seen (vv. 6-8). Paul reminded the church that each person had their own task to work on and that they were simply co-labourers in Christ (vv. 5-9). He also reminded the church that Christ first laid the foundation that allowed the church to build upon it (vv. 10-11). Without Christ, their works would be worthless. Paul called the church to consider what they were using to build and fuel their work (vv. 12). He warned that, in the end, the quality of each person’s work would be tested by fire, determining whether one would receive a reward or if the work amounted to nothing (vv. 12-15).
APPLY:
I am prompted to reflect on a few questions:
- Have I thought or acted in a worldly manner when carrying out God’s work?
- Have I been jealous of others with whom I serve alongside in ministry, who seem more capable?
- Do I claim glory for myself, or do I acknowledge God as the ultimate source and provider for all fruit and growth in ministry and in my life?
I must admit that my answer to the questions above is “yes.” Yes, I have definitely compared myself to others, forgetting that each has his or her own task assigned by God. Yes, there have been times when I claimed, in my heart, glory for myself instead of acknowledging the glory that belongs to God alone. As I reflect further on the questions above and the scripture text, I am grateful for Paul’s reminders and for the opportunity to confess and repent of my worldliness and pride before God.
I am reminded of the song “Jesus at the Center.” The lyrics repeat how “Jesus (is) at the center of it all,” and remind me to have a true understanding that:
“Nothing else matters
Nothing in this world will do
Jesus, You’re the center
And everything revolves around You.”
DO:
- Make time to routinely check the posture of my heart through prayer and reflection.
- Ask God to show me the ways in which I have fallen short and have glorified myself instead of Him.
PRAY:
Dear Lord, thank You for loving and choosing me to partner You in ministry and in building the church. Forgive me for the times I have fallen short in pride or jealousy. Open my spiritual eyes to truly understand that truly You are at the center and source of all that I am, and all that I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
