Celebrating God’s Faithfulness

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Deuteronomy 33-34 and Psalm 135 (NIV)

(Chan Say Tee, Member, Mandarin Ministry)

READ:

Whilst I read Deuteronomy 33-34 and Psalm 135, the verses that caught my attention were:

Deuteronomy 33 (NIV)

  • Verse 3: Surely it is you who love the people; all the holy ones are in your hand. At your feet they all bow down, and from you receive instruction
  • Verse 29: Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights. ”

Deuteronomy 34 (NIV)

  • Verse 4: Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.”

Psalm 135 (NIV)

  • Verse 3: Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant.
  • Verse 5: I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods.

OBSERVE:

Deuteronomy 33

In this chapter, Moses blessed the  tribes of Israel. This demonstrates God’s faithfulness,  and protection for His people.

Deuteronomy 34

Moses’ death and  his failure  to enter the Promised Land  because he  disobeyed God reminds me of  human mortality,  God’s judgment and sovereignty.

Psalm 135

In Psalm 135, God is praised for His greatness. This Psalm reminds me of God’s sovereignty over all creation. God is all-powerful and worthy of our worship.

From these verses, I learnt important lessons about faith, obedience, fear of God and victory through God’s grace.

APPLY:

I am reminded to acknowledge that God has a plan in my life. No matter what I am experiencing  in my life circumstances, I can rely on His promises. From my personal life experiences, be it challenges in my previous career, family conflicts or health issues, I have experienced God’s goodness and His sovereignty. At the end of our lives, Christians are not exempted from His judgment. I must therefore endeavour to live a life according to His will. I will praise Him and exalt Him daily. I will  thank God for His faithfulness.

DO:

I will persist to cultivate the habit of reading His Word,  to better understand His will and commandments and to apply them in my daily life.

I will pray to God for strength to live out His commandments despite temptations and difficulties.

I will remain  grateful  in all circumstances, praising God and exalting Him daily.

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the truths and important lessons revealed through your Word. Father God, I pray that you will grant me wisdom and strength to apply these lessons to transform my attitudes and guide my actions daily. You are the Almighty God that makes all things possible. Thank  you for  Your love and promises in my life. Help me Lord to live according to  Your commandments and to glorify Your name!  In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
