Where Is My Hope?

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Luke 19 and Psalm 33 (NIV)

(Teo Kheng Hwa from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

 Psalm 33 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 33 begins with a call to praise God (v1-3) for who He is (v4-9). His word is right and true, and He can be trusted. He is faithful, loving and just. He is our Creator God.

God is Sovereign over the nations (v10-12). He is our all-knowing God (v13-15) who observes us from His throne. He also watches those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love (v18).

Psalm 33 concludes with hope – our hope in the Lord. He is our Help and our Shield (v20). As the Psalmist trusts in God’s Holy Name, he rejoices in Him (v21). The final verse is a prayer for God’s unfailing love to surround His people, as they put their hope in Him (v22).

APPLY:

I learn from the Psalmist to begin my day by praising God for who He is in my life, to remember what He does for me, despite what I go through each day. This declaration of praise of God’s attributes (such as His faithfulness, love, justice) changes my perspective of how great our God is. He watches over me, and I know I can trust Him in the situation or circumstance I am in.

A few verses spoke to me from Psalm 33. Verse 15 reminds me that God is my creator, He understands what I do, and my thoughts. Nothing is hidden from Him. May I learn to fear Him and trust His unfailing love for me, as He watches over me daily (v18). I can live with confidence knowing that the Lord is my Help and my Shield. My hope is in the Lord alone (v20)!

DO:

I will continue to start my prayer with praise and a declaration of God’s attributes before I make my petitions to the Lord. This allows who God is to impact my prayer and perspective.

I will also meditate and rest on the promises of verses 15, 18 and 20 whenever I face challenges and difficulties.

PRAY:

Father God, I thank You for You are my Help and my Shield. Let Your unfailing love surround me today for my hope is in You alone. Amen.
