Death Is Overcome

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 25 and Psalm 119:41-48 (NIV)

(Loh Chin Siew from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Isaiah 25:6-8 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Isaiah 25:6-8 is a prophetic vision of the day when God will prepare a wonderful feast for all the people, both Jews and Gentiles, of the world who trust in Him. It shows the overthrow of evil and the joy of eternity with God. It also shows that God’s saving message is for everyone. The Lord will swallow up death forever. Death will be destroyed so thoroughly that there will be no trace left of it. He will wipe away every tear and comfort us.

Paul tells us how death will be defeated: when our mortal bodies have been transformed into bodies that are imperishable. God will give us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).

APPLY:

I attended my grandmother’s funeral last year and an ex-colleague’s funeral this year. Funerals are a sobering time that makes me think even more about what happens after death. What will happen when I pass on from this earth? Will I go to heaven, or not? How can I live my life with faith and finish the race well?

Today’s passage assures me that God has overcome death. He will end death forever. Even though my physical body may pass away, victory over death has been won and I can look forward to the heavenly banquet that He has prepared for all who place their faith in Him. The sufferings of this life are temporary. I will rejoice and be glad in His salvation, and not through my own efforts.

DO:

I will:

  1. Rejoice and be glad in God’s gift of salvation.
  2. Build my trust and security in God by spending time with Him and in His Word.
  3. Look for opportunities to share God’s message of salvation with others.

PRAY:

Dear Father Lord, thank You for loving me so much and for sending Jesus to come to earth and die on the cross for me. Help me to maintain a heavenly perspective and live with eternity in mind. Increase my faith and courage to share Your good news with others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
