Put On The Mind Of Christ
BRD REFLECTION 2026
1 Corinthians 2 and Psalm 9:11-20 (NIV)
(Alex Seow, from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
1 Corinthians 2 recounts Paul’s ministry in Corinth and his mission to proclaim Christ. In verses 6–16, Paul emphasises that only through the Spirit can we grasp the wisdom of God, for such wisdom cannot be understood through human intellect. He urges the Corinthians to recognise that true wisdom must come from “the Spirit of God” (v. 11).
OBSERVE:
Several verses in this chapter highlight a profound truth for all disciples of Christ: The Holy Spirit dwells within us, enabling understanding, discernment, correction, and revelation—things impossible to perceive in our past unregenerate state:
v. 10 “These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”
v. 11 “For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also, no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.”
v. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.”
APPLY:
What a reminder and assurance – we have the mind of Christ. Through the Spirit’s prompting, I am called to live obediently, humbly, and righteously. Yet, on reflection, this has not always been the case for me. Like the Pharisees, I have allowed blindness and stubbornness to shape my responses. I recall moments when:
- I knew the right thing to do but avoided it because it felt inconvenient.
- I should have spoken up but stayed silent out of fear or embarrassment.
- I received wise counsel but dismissed it because it was uncomfortable.
- I felt prompted to apologise but ignored that conviction.
- I was moved to help someone but delayed instead.
- I should have held my tongue but spoke harshly.
These instances reveal the tension between knowing God’s wisdom and yielding to it. The Spirit’s leading is constant; it is my responsiveness that wavers.
DO:
I will intentionally examine my blind spots and invite trusted friends to speak lovingly into my life. Each day, I will seek God with a posture of humility, asking Him to renew my mind and help me resist self-will. As I put on the mind of Christ, may I learn to discern His voice clearly and follow willingly wherever He leads.
PRAY:
Lord, thank You for giving me the mind of Christ.
Teach me to listen to Your Spirit and walk in obedience.
Remove my blindness and soften my heart to Your leading.
May my life reflect Your wisdom and truth each day. Amen.
