A Call To Repentance

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Micah 1 and Psalm 45 (NIV)

(Nadia Kam from Worship & Music Ministry)

READ:

This reflection is based on Micah 1: 6 – 7.

OBSERVE:

In Micah 1:3-7, the prophet Micah gave prophecies announcing God’s judgement upon Israel for sinning against Him with social evils, corrupt leadership and idolatry. The prophecy of God’s wrath was seen in verses 6 to 7, “So I, the Lord, will make the city of Samaria a heap of ruins. Her streets will be plowed up for planting vineyards. I will roll the stones of her walls into the valley below, exposing her foundations. All her carved images will be smashed. All her sacred treasures will be burned. These things were bought with the money earned by her prostitution, and they will now be carried away to pay prostitutes elsewhere.”

This shows how much God hates sin and how severely He will judge people who refuse to repent and continuously rebel against Him.

APPLY:

It is easy to take God’s love, grace, and patience for granted and allow myself to be distracted by the cares of this world. I am reminded through these verses of God’s wrath and judgement on sin, and how there should be a sense of urgency towards repentance.

Although prophet Micah is not here to accuse me of my sin, I have the Holy Spirit in me to prompt me of ways I need to repent. This reminds me of the importance of being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and being obedient to His prompting.

DO:

I will put aside distractions and spend time with God in prayer and silence to reflect on ways I need to repent.

I will ask God for sensitivity to the  Holy Spirit and for God to soften my heart to obey seemingly small prompts from the Holy Spirit so that I become more sensitive to its prompting in the long run.

PRAY:

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me despite all the sin still present in my life. Thank You for reminding  me how much You hate sin and how I must not take Your love, grace, and patience for granted. Please soften my heart to continually turn to You and to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s prompting on things in my life that I need to repent of and surrender to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
