Justice Served My Way?

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Jonah 3; 4 and Psalm 44 (NIV)

(Wong Chi Kong from Worship & Music Ministry)

READ:

I have chosen Jonah 4 to reflect upon, as it has spoken to me. God had shown mercy to the Ninevites in Jonah 3, and Jonah was angry at God. He was  angry because he wanted God to bring judgement on the Ninevites, but God being gracious and compassionate, granted repentance to them instead.

OBSERVE:

I have been angry at people at work, angry at how unfairly I have been treated. And I have to admit that I do wish that God would punish these people. Like Jonah, it infuriates me to see them getting away with things, or worse, enjoying prosperity.

I want justice to be served my way.

In the midst of my anger and depression, God spoke to me one day through a song – Christ is Enough. God showed me that He will always prepare just enough for me, to get by the difficult period I was going through. There will be just enough finances to see me through month by month, there will be just enough help for me to get my work done. Not more, not less. Just enough.

By showing Jonah how he could feel so strongly about a plant that he did not tend to or help it grow, God drove home the message that it is God’s right to be angry, and at the same time show compassion to the Ninevites upon their repentance. More importantly, I think it has taught me not to focus my emotions on the people or issues I am angry at, but to refocus on God. Let God be God.

APPLY:

I will always remember to keep my eyes focused on God, and not let my emotions get hold of me. God has shown me time and time again that He will always provide, and He will always serve justice His way.

I will always keep my eyes  on God, and my emotions with God.

DO:

Remember how God has always shown me grace, and not to feel injustice when God shows others grace.

PRAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, I give thanks for Your grace, for always providing for me and my family. Indeed, Christ is enough for me. Amen.
