Our Sacred Calling To Make Right
BRD REFLECTION 2026
2 Corinthians 5:11-21 and Psalm 34:1-7 (NIV)
(Jonathan Huang, Pastoral Team)
READ:
2 Corinthians 5:19b-20 – And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
OBSERVE:
What a joyful declaration! I have a new life in Christ, and my old identity of brokenness and selfishness is gone! (v. 17). As a result, I have been given a sacred calling to be a minister of reconciliation (v. 18).
The call is to be His ambassador, tasked with carrying His message and His mission to fix the broken hearts, and to call the lost to come back to the Father (v. 20). This calling is based on the example of Christ, whose sacrifice was what made it possible for each of us to be at peace with God.
APPLY:
In today’s world, foreign relations policy seems decidedly antagonistic. However, Christ’s ambassadors have a very opposite purpose – to promote the healing of relationships.
As disciples of Christ, we are to make right, and not to be right. I grieve at the many ways that Christians act and speak in this world that often turn people away from Christ instead of pointing towards Him. This is usually not due to the content (or truth) of their words, but the manner in which they seek to coerce, embarrass or even bully those who do not agree with them. They do not reflect the One whom they are sent to represent.
I find it difficult to accept a world where the person who shouts the loudest seems to win. But I must realise that my task is to lead people back to the Father who loves them.
DO:
I must always look to Christ as my example, who, instead of taking the earthly kingdoms by force, laid down His life, so that others, even His enemies, might live. Christ’s counter-cultural and sacrificial love might seem “out of our mind” (v. 13) to the world, and often even to myself, because in this world, might is right.
However, to be Christlike is to take on His example in order to achieve His mission. I must lay down my life, my rights, to pave the way for others to find God. Therefore, my goal is not to be right, but to help make right the broken relations this world has with its Creator, to be an ambassador of His peace, to lead people back to the Father.
For some reason, God has called even me to this sacred calling. What a joy it is!
PRAY:
Dear Father, teach me to be a fool for Christ, and to follow the example of Christ who gave up even His own life so that we might be reconciled with You. Help me to embrace my sacred calling to make right the broken relations that exist between the world and You. Help me to not just reflect the truth of Christ, but His humility and gentle, self-sacrificing nature, so that every tongue on earth should declare that You are God and King! Amen.
