God Sees Beyond My Present Circumstances
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Genesis 36:31–43 and Psalm 102:18–28 (NIV)

READ:
Genesis 36:31–43 and Psalm 102:18–28 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
What strikes me as I read these passages is the contrast between what is temporary and what is lasting.
Genesis 36:31–43 records a succession of kings. One ruler follows another, and generations come and go. As I read through their names, I am reminded of how quickly leadership, influence, and circumstances change.
Psalm 102:18–28 brings my attention to something very different. The psalmist looks beyond his own situation and declares that God remains the same: “In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain” (vv 25–26).
The passage also looks beyond the present generation: “The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you” (v 28).
Genesis reminds me that human positions and seasons pass, while Psalm 102 reminds me that God remains.
APPLY:
These passages speak to me about perspective.
There are times when I become absorbed in what is happening around me. I think about responsibilities, decisions, people, and the uncertainties of the future. In those moments, my view becomes focused on what I see in front of me.
But God reminds me to lift my eyes beyond my immediate circumstances. My present situation is only one part of a much bigger story. The things I worry about today will change. People will come and go. Roles will change. Plans will change. Yet God remains.
Verse 28 particularly speaks to me because it reminds me that God is concerned not only with my immediate circumstances. He sees beyond my lifetime and beyond what I am able to see. My responsibility is to be faithful with what He has entrusted to me today, while trusting Him with what comes after me.
This changes how I look at my own responsibilities. I do not need to control the future. Instead, I need to remain faithful in the present and trust that God is working beyond what I can see.
That is what I sense God is saying to me today: “Look beyond what is changing around you, and remember who I am.”
DO:
When I find myself becoming anxious about circumstances or the future, I will pause and remind myself that God sees a much bigger picture than I do.
I will focus on being faithful with what God has placed before me today and leave the future in His hands.
PRAY:
Lord, thank You that You remain constant when everything around me changes.
Help me to see my circumstances from Your perspective. When I am focused on the things I cannot control, turn my eyes back to You.
Give me the wisdom to be faithful with what You have entrusted to me today, and the faith to trust You with tomorrow.
May my life and decisions leave a legacy of Your faithfulness for those who come after me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
