Reflecting God’s Light

LENT 2024 | DAY 24

Mark 10:1-16 (NIV)

Read: Mark 10: 13-16

The Little Children and Jesus

13People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

Jesus always welcomed the children and like Him, the Children’s Ministry welcomes our big family of children every weekend so the young ones can come to learn about God and encounter Him personally. In the Bible, Jesus tells stories explaining kingdom truths. I have had the privilege of re-telling these stories to the children I teach every weekend. These stories and object lessons are simple for a child to understand so they can receive the Word.

There are so many stories I love but I am sharing two of my favourite lessons which have ministered to me:

– Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

God is the sun and we are the moon. The moon reflects the sun’s light so moonlight shines over the earth when it is dark. The moon is not the source of the light, but a reflector. We all just need to reflect God’s light to the world (to be like Jesus) by relying on the source of the light and be available to reflect His light all the time.

– Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

God’s plan is like a jigsaw puzzle and each piece has a place on the puzzle. Every piece is precious in a puzzle and the puzzle cannot be completed without it, as each piece has a special shape and colour. You are like a puzzle piece that God has a purpose and a place for in His plan. God made you special and He will reveal the plans that will prosper you as you find and take your place in His good plan.

I remember and cling to the simple Bible truths and use them to minister to others, and be a channel of blessing to them.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for adopting me as Your child. Please help me have childlike faith and help me to reflect You in my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

DISCUSSION POINTERS:

1.  When sharing God’s truths to pre-believers, simplifying the truths and our testimony may help. What would your testimony sound like if you have to explain it to a child?

2.  Have you been a good reflection of God at the workplace?

3.  Do you try to be like someone else instead of being yourself at the workplace? Are you seeking God for His special plans for you?
