READ:
Ecclesiastes 9 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In Ecclesiastes 9, we read about our common destiny, which regardless of our social status or power is death. Yet, we are to enjoy what God has blessed us with in this lifetime.
“Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.” – Ecclesiastes 9:7
We are reminded to embrace God’s blessings in daily life, such as family and friends, and to give our utmost best for the work that God has given us to do. While seemingly meaningless, they are to be enjoyed with gratitude and faithfulness.
Though life is unpredictable— “but time and chance happen to them all” (v.11)—our response can still be marked by trust in God’s sovereignty. While we can’t control our outcomes, we can live fully and faithfully trusting in God.
Ecclesiastes 9:17-18 reminds us to seek God’s wisdom in life – in our speech, our relationships and our work.
Ecclesiastes 10:1 also reminds me that even small choices can have great consequences. A single careless word, an impulsive action, or a prideful decision can unravel much good.
APPLY:
I am called to walk in humble wisdom, recognising that everything comes from God, and He values righteousness. Whether we hold positions of influence or quietly serve in the background, our actions matter.
In Micah 6:8, “we are to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”
DO:
Be thankful for each day that the Lord has blessed me with, and rejoice in the little blessings from God. Also, I should be careful with what I say or do, since even the smallest action – an act of kindness or a harsh word – can greatly impact those around me. A word of grace, a righteous choice, a thankful heart—these are powerful ways we honour God in daily life.
PRAY:
Lord, help me to number my days and live wisely. Teach me to enjoy Your gifts with a grateful heart, to speak with grace, and to choose humility over pride. In a world full of uncertainty, may my trust be in You—the God who holds all things in His hands. Amen.
