BRD REFLECTION 2025

Luke 17 and Psalm 30 (NIV)

(Madeleine Foo from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 30 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 30 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving for the mercy and grace of God. David reflected on his encounters with the awesome God.

David praised and worshipped God who rescued him from his enemies (v1) and restored him to health (v2).

When he was prosperous, David thought he was unmovable, but he was shattered when God turned away from him (v6).

God is merciful for His anger lasts only a moment but His favour lasts a lifetime (v5a)!  What a loving God we have!

God also promises hope and deliverance in times of trials, for “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Vv5b).  When the sun rises, it is a new day with new hope.

APPLY:

I must be mindful not to take God’s grace and mercy for granted and do things my way when the going is good and forget God. For when God turns His face away and pulls the rug from under my feet, I will be just as shattered as David was (v6-7).

The Lord chastises those He loves and I am comforted to know that if I am truly remorseful and repentant, the mercy and favour of the Lord will be upon me again. However, God’s grace and mercy should not be a licence for me to sin.

When I feel down and in distress, I am to remember that God hears the cry of His children and will let me experience His goodness again.

DO:

I want to:

  • Walk with the Lord daily and heed the guidance of the Holy Spirit through His Word and prayer in order to find rest for my soul.
  • Remember the grace and mercy of God always, to praise and worship Him for He is faithful and loving.

PRAY:

Lord God Almighty, You who sit enthroned on high are worthy of all praise and worship. You have led me step by step and showed me the way. I have seen the goodness of God in the land of the living. May I continue to abide in You and sing praises to You all the days of my life. For all honour, glory and majesty belong to our God for ever and ever. Amen!
