Share The Good News About Jesus

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Acts 8:26-40 and Psalm 11:1-7 (NIV)

(Aaron Fun, Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Acts 8:26-40 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

This passage from Acts 8:26-40 tells the story of the conversion of an Ethiopian eunuch to the Christian faith through the sharing of the Word by a disciple of Christ, Philip. In verse 35, it says, “Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.” For us as Christians, this verse reminds us of the importance of being ready “in season and out of season” to share the good news about Jesus with anyone, anywhere and anytime to those who do not yet know Him.

APPLY:

We need to obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit and be filled with the Spirit, to just go and let God do the rest. One of my favourite songs, “Spirit Touch Your Church”, speaks of the truth of “the power of Your Holy Spirit…” to touch lives so that we can be effective in the ministries which God has placed us in “to open heaven’s door” to the lost and the hopeless.

Here, the Ethiopian eunuch had a copy of the Book of Isaiah and was reading it. At times, it is important we make available God’s Word, i.e. the Bible to others who may not have one. Also, we may be called upon by God to teach and explain the meaning of His Word to help them understand the Scripture.

DO:

  1. I will continue to seek God’s will in my life by serving and/or giving financially towards the mission field to bring God’s Word to the unreached, both locally and beyond; to bring hope to the last, the lost and the least.
  2. I must remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and like Philip – to be ready  to “ Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season;” (2 Timothy 4:2) to anyone, anywhere and anytime in love and gentleness. Even if they reject the good news, as a Christian brother has always encouraged me in the past, “The sun is our example. No matter how many times we go down, we have to keep rising.”
  3. I will continue to share God’s blessings and strive to be a truth-bearer of hope to those shrouded in darkness in our local communities and beyond as a Sower in Partnership & Mission Development where we work to raise funds for the mission field and distribute Bibles.

PRAY:

Gracious Father, thank You for Your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who redeemed us and paid the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross for us. Help us to always remember our identity in Christ as children of God and that we have been made one with Christ. Most of all, Lord, I pray that we will be sensitive to the cries of the suffering people here and around the world who do not yet know Christ, and that You will grant us the boldness to share the good news about Jesus and His love with them. May His abiding presence always be with us all the days of our lives. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray, Amen.
