God, My Defender

BRD REFLECTIONS:

Joshua 9:1-27 and Psalm 10 (NIV)

(Jennifer Lee, SGM Zone Leader)

READ:

Psalm 10 is a psalm of complaints and how the people who lived in their own evil ways had no respect for God. But towards the second half of this psalm, the psalmist began to see God’s gracious hand at work.

OBSERVE:

The first thing I noticed when reading Psalm 10 was the author questioning God. Most of the 18 verses of this psalm were clearly complaints and how the wicked are allowed to carry on in their prosperity, haughtiness and having no regard for God and His ways.

APPLY:

This Psalm reminds me not to complain (verses 1-2) though I see the unfairness of the evildoers who are wicked, and who deliberately cause me harm or mental suffering (verses 4-9). As the Lord rose up to defend and did not forget the helpless (verses 12-17), I am so thankful that the Lord will lift His hand to help me in my afflictions. God is the Judge, the King of kings and my Defender. Hallelujah!!

DO:

I will continue to come to God with a thankful heart and praise Him daily despite what is happening in the world, and the situations around my own life and that of my loved ones. Whatever is happening, God has allowed it to build me up to be  a stronger soldier and a testimony for Him.  I will use these situations – be they good or challenging, to see God’s glory shine through, and to witness the Lord’s hands in them.  There will always be a rainbow after each storm; and light at the end of the tunnel.  I just need to press on and trust God to let me see and experience His miracle. At the end of it all, God will always be my Victor.  I will continue to look up, and not at the circumstances around me. The Almighty God has my back. He is my Defender and Protector. He has built a hedge around me to protect me from my attackers.

PRAY:

I praise You, Lord, for the encouragement and that You have everything under control. Thank You for Psalm 10 that reminds us that You will take care and have the evildoers account for what they have done. All we need to do is to just trust You. In Your ever victorious name I pray, Amen!!
