It’s All About Jesus

BRD REFLECTION 2026

2 Corinthians 4 and Psalm 32:6-11 (NIV)

(Felix Yeo, Pastoral Team)

READ:

2 Corinthians 4 (NIV)

“Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart…  For what we preach is not ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.. Therefore, we do not lose heart..”

OBSERVE:

Paul lives with a deep conviction that both his life and his work belong entirely to the ministry of God’s kingdom. He sees himself first and foremost as a servant – following the example of Jesus who gave Himself for others. He knows that it is only by God’s mercy that he has been entrusted with this calling, and because of that, everything for him is about Jesus.

Paul breathes Jesus into every circumstance – into joy, into sorrow, and into suffering.  He reminds us that serving Christ will inevitably involve cost and suffering.  There will be moments when he is hard-pressed, perplexed, persecuted and struck down.  Yet he refuses to lose heart.  For the sake of Jesus, he faces these trials with courage, trusting that God’s grace is always sufficient.

APPLY:

Paul’s experience still speaks to us today.  Over the past 50 years of serving in different capacities in ministry, I have tasted a small measure of what he describes.  I have felt the pressure of expectations and deadlines. I have been perplexed when I could not understand the values or viewpoints of others.  I have felt persecuted when untruths were spoken and struck down when my thoughts were dismissed or ridiculed.

In those moments, I remind myself that I am not alone.  I bring my disagreements, confusion, and hurts to Jesus, choosing to rest in His grace and mercy. And I realize that I can only do this when my ministry is truly about Jesus – not about my pride, my preferences or my need to be right or recognized.

DO:

I recognize that pride and selfishness often pull me toward serving myself rather than serving Jesus.  To guard my heart, I will hold myself accountable to people in different parts of my life – family, friends and staff – who can remind me why I am serving in the first place.

Each day, I want to intentionally make space to remember that He must increase, and I must decrease. My life and ministry must point to one truth: It is all about Jesus.

PRAY:

It’s all about you Jesus. (pause)
Jesus, increase in me.
(pause)
Jesus, increase in me.
(pause)
Jesus, increase in me.
(pause)
It is all about you Jesus
Amen.
