Walking With Integrity

BRD REFLECTION 2026

Genesis 35:16-29 and Psalm 101 (NIV)

(Silas Wong, Worship Leader, Worship & Music Ministry)

READ:

Today, I would like to focus on Psalm 101, in which King David reflects on walking in integrity.

OBSERVE:

The first thing I noticed is that this is a very ‘action-oriented’ psalm.  ‘I will’ appears ten times in eight verses (ESV). There is no shortage of things to do after reading this psalm. Second, the psalm offers many descriptions of integrity. The affirmative ones are love, justice, blamelessness, and faithfulness. The negative ones include not being perverse, bad, wicked, evil, proud or arrogant, and not engaging in slander, deceit or lies. This tells me that integrity is more than just following a set of moral laws and commands. It is a comprehensive and holistic worldview that is aligned with God’s own heart.

APPLY:

As I reflected on this psalm, I realised that I had become apathetic about integrity. In a world that is overloaded with news and information, both real and fake, I had become numb to what is right, wrong, true, false, good, and bad.  On a more personal level, I am someone who does not want to offend others, so I reserve judgement on many important things and tell myself not to get involved, unless they affect me directly.

I want to awaken my conscience again and reclaim a sense of ethical agency–the capacity to act and make decisions based on how they align with Christian values. I may not be called to change the world, but I can make changes in areas within my control.

DO:

The first thing I need to do is to be sensitive to and conscious of integrity in every sphere of my life. I will start by being more aware, asking questions, applying critical thinking, and checking everything against God’s definition of integrity. I can do what is right, good, and just–for example, in my consumption choices, in how I treat others, and in speaking up against bullying or abuse.

PRAY:

Father, give me a heart of integrity, a heart that is attuned to Your principles of what is right and good. Cause me to think and to act in accordance with Your will and Your calling for my life. And give me the wisdom and courage to walk with integrity, even if it is a hard and costly road to take. Amen.
