PONDER | REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. Study Scripture
    a. Read Psalm 33 aloud. Read it at least three times through, allocating one person to read the entire Psalm each time. Pause for a minute of silence each time before reading the text. Group members may choose to write down something that they feel impressed by in the text each time it is read.
  2. Recall Sermon
    a. The sermon explored three truths from Psalm 33: God Speaks, God Sees, and God Saves. Which of these stood out most to you, and why?
    b. Recall how the sermon connected God’s speech to creation, moral order, and justice. Why does it matter that the world is not random, or self-governing, but upheld by the word of God?
    c. The sermon suggested that if God sees all, then pain and suffering are not meaningless or hidden. How does this challenge despair?
    d. The sermon contrasted the world’s belief that “the powerful write history” with the biblical claim that God overturns human plans and saves by His steadfast love. How does Psalm 33 reshape our understanding of power?
  3. Relate Personally
    a. Where do you most feel the pressure to live as though the world is only shaped by human power, success, or control?
    b. Psalm 33 says God sees “all the children of man” and “observes all their deeds.” Do you experience this more as a comfort, a warning, or both? Why?
    c. When life feels uncertain, where are you tempted to place your confidence instead of God? For example: ability, planning, money, influence, reputation, intellect, or self-sufficiency.
  4. Commit to Action
    a. Psalm 33 ends with the posture of waiting: “Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.” What is one area of your life where God may be calling you to wait for Him rather than seize control?
    b. Is there a situation in your life where you need to remember that God sees, God knows, and God is not indifferent? Share how the group may pray with you.
