God Is Our Refuge
BRD REFLECTION 2026
Matthew 14:1-12 and Psalm 57:1-6 (NIV)
(William Goh, Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Psalm 57:1-6 (NIV)
OBSERVE:
In Psalm 57:1-6, David cried out to the Lord in the midst of deep distress. He was fleeing from Saul’s relentless pursuit and was cornered in what seemed like a dead end. Yet instead of succumbing to fear and despair, David turned his focus to the Almighty and sovereign God for protection and deliverance. He took refuge in God, trusting that the Lord would rebuke those who pursued him. Rather than blaming God for his circumstances, David found comfort and renewed confidence by focusing on God’s sovereignty and grace in keeping him safe.
APPLY:
The passage reminded me of the importance of seeking God when we are faced with life’s challenges. Trusting God and committing my struggles and fears to Him strengthened my faith and brought assurance and peace.
There was a season in my career when I struggled to cope with a mounting workload and high expectations from my bosses and peers. Over time, the pressure took a toll on my mental health, bringing me to the brink of burnout. One night, in my desperation, on the eve of an important proposal presentation, I pleaded with the Lord for help. By His grace, the meeting was postponed, giving me much-needed time to refine my work. During that challenging period, God also provided me with strength, wisdom, and resilience as I continued to seek Him.
Through many experiences, I have seen God’s faithfulness in comforting and delivering me whenever I call upon Him. I am also encouraged to intercede for my loved ones and friends by sharing their burdens and lifting them up in prayer. It brings me joy to witness God’s grace as He answers our prayers time and time again.
DO:
I will:
- Seek God for comfort and strength whenever I am faced with challenges in life.
- Share God’s goodness in comforting and protecting us.
PRAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and grace in comforting and protecting me whenever I face challenges in life. I pray for the Holy Spirit to remind me to keep my focus on You in times of struggle, rather than blaming my circumstances. Grant me the compassion to share the burdens of my loved ones and friends so that I may intercede for them, trusting in Your intervention. May our lives continually reflect Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
