Walking in Light And Seeking God’s Guidance
BRD REFLECTION 2025
Ephesians 5 and Psalm 5:1-8 (NIV)
(William Chan, Worship and Music Ministry)
READ:
For this reflection, I have focused on Ephesians 5 and Psalm 5:1-8
OBSERVE:
In Ephesians 5, Paul exhorts believers to live as children of light, imitating God’s love and walking in holiness. He contrasts deeds of darkness — such as impurity, greed, and foolish talk — with the fruit of light, which consists of goodness, righteousness, and truth. What stands out is the call to “make the most of every opportunity” and to be filled with the Spirit, expressing gratitude and worship in all circumstances.
In Psalm 5, David cries out prayerfully for help and protection. He acknowledges God’s holiness, declaring that evil cannot dwell with Him, and asks for God’s leading in righteousness. What draws my attention is the deep dependence on God’s direction and the assurance that He listens to the cries of the faithful.
APPLY:
These passages remind me that my daily choices matter. Ephesians 5 challenges me to examine whether my words, actions, and even attitudes reflect light or darkness. It is easy to slip into careless speech or selfish living, but God calls me to live wisely and be Spirit-filled.
Psalm 5 resonates with my need for God’s guidance in a world full of distractions and temptations. I see how both passages connect: walking in light requires constant prayer and reliance on God’s leading. Personally, this means I must be vigilant about what influences me, ensuring that my life reflects gratitude, purity, and love.
DO:
I will:
- start my mornings by presenting my requests to God before diving into the day
- be more mindful of my words and actions, ensuring that they reflect light rather than darkness
- intentionally avoid influences that pull me away from Christ and instead seek opportunities to walk in love and wisdom
- practise gratitude and Spirit-filled living by singing and speaking truth to myself and others.
PRAY:
Dear Father God, I thank You for calling me to walk in Your light and for hearing my prayers each morning. Help me to live wisely, reflecting Your love in all I do. Guard my heart from darkness and guide my steps in righteousness. Teach me to wait expectantly for Your direction and to trust in Your unfailing love. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
