Almighty God Is Our Hope

READ:
OBSERVE:
Isaiah 41 opens with a courtroom scene where God challenges man-made idols on their ability to intervene in human history and deliver the Israelites from their plight. This was set in the Babylonian exile period, where the Israelites had been suffering for a long time, feeling discouraged and that God had abandoned them. Prophet Isaiah was encouraging them to hold on to the hope that God would put an end to their pain and suffering.
In verses 8-10, God reassures the Israelites that they are His chosen people, He will never forsake them and will uphold them with His victorious right hand. What a powerful image of God’s promise of deliverance.
In verse 17, we see God’s heart towards the poor and weak; He will perform miracles to deliver them out of their situation. By doing so, He challenges the idols as to whether they are able to do likewise.
The chapter concludes with the promise of God’s intervention in history, His help for His people, and the ultimate restoration of Israel.
Psalm 121 is a short psalm of 5 verses, and it reaffirms that God is our Defender who protects us day and night. He will protect us from the evil ones and will watch over us.
APPLY:
I should not put my hope and faith in earthly things; instead, when faced with challenges or adversity, it is right to pray and commit each situation into His hands, seeking God’s guidance and lordship over my life.
Amid hopeless situations, I can remember that I have a God who makes all things possible. God has been faithful in delivering me in the past, and He will not forsake me now.
DO:
I will not be anxious about anything but leave all my cares to God, who is in control.
PRAY:
Almighty God and Father, thank You for Your promises and reassurance that You are in control. When I am overwhelmed by the darkness of this world, give me the strength to overcome it and keep my eyes focused on You and You alone. I know You are always with me, even when I do not see or sense Your presence. Cause my faith to rise, and for me to be courageous to encourage and be that light for You wherever You have called me to. In the name of our saviour, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
