Teach Me

BRD REFLECTION 2025

Isaiah 21 and Psalm 119:9-16 (NIV)

(Jorge Lau from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

Psalm 119:9-16 (NIV)

OBSERVE:

The psalmist asked God to teach him His decrees and expressed the importance for a young person to be obedient and to internalise His word in order to be pure in heart and sinless in conduct (v9-11).  The psalmist committed to keeping God’s word and His commandments in heart, speech, and conduct.

APPLY:

Today’s observation is reminding me that in order to be a follower of Christ, I have to commit fully to His word, His commandments, His laws and His teachings, in how I think, speak and act.

In today’s divided world (even among followers), how can I distinguish between the righteous and the unrighteous? The definition can be ambiguous with a very fine thin line drawn by worldly definition. The situations become more challenging and misinformed, especially in a world full of readily available information from endless online social platforms, coupled with advancing technology like AI (Artificial Intelligence). With all the worldly lifestyles, worldly habits and worldly practices, I am vulnerable to being distracted, tempted, and to drift away from His word, His commandments, His laws and His teachings.

I must seek God first for His righteousness and guidance at home, in the workplace and in the community. I must learn from the psalmist to be committed in keeping God’s word and His commandments, in my heart, mind, speech, and conduct, while rejoicing in His laws. No excuses.

DO:

I will:

• Ask God to grant me vision so that I can discern this confusing world through His eyes.

• Ask God to grant me the thirst to seek His word more deeply.

• Ask God to teach me how to stay obedient in His word and His commandments, and how to conduct myself righteously in His way in this chaotic era.

PRAY:

Heavenly Father, I give thanks that You have protected and shielded me from challenges (both personal and at work) throughout the years as I follow You.  I asked that You continue to teach me, mould me, and shield me from the unrighteous in this worldly world. I will obey Your way, as I know that there is no other way.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
