Know Myself, Share Christ
BRD REFLECTION 2025
(Grace Chew from Small Group Ministry)
READ:
Read Luke 8 and Psalm 21, paying special attention to the following verses:
“For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.” (Luke 8:7)
“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.” (Luke 8:16)
“For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High, he will not be shaken.” (Psalm 21:7)
OBSERVE:
This parable of the lamp on a stand is a reminder from Jesus encouraging His followers to be a good example by not hiding away. We are to exude Christ’s light with words of love and truth, and through acts of kindness to those we encounter. This must have been a difficult instruction for the early Christians who were often persecuted for their faith. Despite the intimidating conditions of being open with one’s faith, we are reminded in Psalm 21:7 to trust in God’s unfailing love and we will not be shaken.
APPLY:
I am fortunate to live in Singapore where persecutions are not overt. However, I am still apprehensive about sharing about Jesus even to my immediate family and friends. Some of my excuses include: “It is better to maintain the peace at home”; “It would be inappropriate to share so openly at work, let me find time in a social context”; and at social gatherings “This feels so out of place when everyone is having fun”, etc.
Through this reflection, I am reminded that eventually God’s truth and light will be brought out into the open (Luke 8:17), and at that point in time, how would I feel if I had not done more to share about Jesus and be part of the awe-inspiring ending?
DO:
I will be more conscientious in sharing Jesus. I pray particularly for the wisdom and discernment to look deeply at my excuses, find the root cause of my hesitation, and hopefully find the ability to overcome self-imposed barriers in sharing my testimony about God.
PRAY:
Thank You, Lord Jesus for this life in Singapore where I can be open with my faith. I pray that I will be attuned to what You are doing in the lives around me, and be always ready and courageous to share my testimony and Your love.
