Christmas 2021
Dear Wesley Church family,
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” These are the lyrics of a well-known
Christmas song which celebrates the festivity of the season.
In my view, Christmas is indeed a wonderful time of the year. Not because of the
glittering Christmas trees, gifts and feasts but because there is a divine hope that
Christmas brings. Despite these uncertain and volatile pandemic times, there is a
certain and steadfast hope that we receive in the birth of Christ.
This is because the birth of Christ is God’s Gift of Love.
God so loved us that He was willing to give His Son to come and be one of us so
that Christ may eventually die for us in order we may know and experience Him in a personal and loving relationship.
Because such love has been demonstrated, we have a living hope to sustain us. We have a hope that no matter what valley we are in, anxiety we have to face, burdens we have to carry and fears we wrestle with, God is with us. He is our Lord Immanuel (Matt 1:22-23). His presence saves, restores, redeems and renews us.
We can face the future because Christmas happened.
Love came down at Christmas. This is the hope we have in Jesus our Saviour.
Let us bring this hope of Christmas to someone today. Let us share this hope through proclaiming the Christmas story and inviting someone to put his or her trust in Jesus.
Let us bring the gift of sacrificial love, incarnational presence and joyful hope by being His hands and feet to the least, last and lost this Christmas.
The world needs such hope especially in these dark and trying times. Let us play our part. Let us look beyond ourselves to the needs of others.
Traditionally at our Church, this is also the time of the year where we receive a
Christmas offering to bless the least, last and needy. May I appeal to you to give
generously for we are blessed to be a blessing.
My prayer is through the generosity of our giving, many will experience the hope and encounter the love that came down at Christmas.
Whatever you may be going through, I pray you may persevere, fix your eyes on our Lord Jesus and trust Him. And as you do that, may the peace and hope of Christ rest and remain with you.
Here’s wishing you and your family a most blessed Christmas!
Yours In Christ
