BRD REFLECTION 2025

Revelation 1 and Psalm 121 (NIV)

(Roger Chan from Small Group Ministry)

READ:

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
(Psalm 121:1–2, NIV)

OBSERVE:

Psalm 121 is a psalm for tired feet and uncertain steps. It begins with a question I’ve quietly asked many times: Where does my help come from?

The psalmist’s answer is simple, steady, and strong: My help comes from the Lord. Not from within. Not from striving. But from our God Almighty—the One who sees, keeps, and walks beside me.

God doesn’t slumber. God doesn’t miss a moment. The road may be long, but we are never left alone.

APPLY:

When I first took on the role of leading the small group ministry, I didn’t feel spiritually and physically ready. Life already felt full—burgeoning work and family commitments, and the constant juggle of responsibilities. I often felt stretched thin (and still feel so today), and unsure if I had anything to give.

But Psalm 121 reminded me I didn’t have to lead from strength. I just needed to trust the One who keeps me.

God never left me to walk alone. I saw God’s help in people—especially blessing me with pastors, small group core team, including our zone leaders and small group leaders. They carried the weight with me, lifted me in prayer, and stayed faithful even when things were hard. I wouldn’t have made it without them.

Over time, this phrase became real to me: “Keep Close, Keep Tight.” Keep close to God. Keep tight with each other. That’s where strength comes from. That’s where grace shows up.

DO:

As I hand the ministry over, I’m not walking away—I’m walking forward. I carry with me deep gratitude. For those who journeyed with me. For the God who kept me. For the reminder that I don’t have to be perfect to be faithful.

I want to live what I’ve learnt. To stay rooted. To keep showing up—for God, for community, and for the road still ahead.

So I will keep close.
Keep tight.
And keep going.

PRAY:

God,
Thank You for keeping me—especially when I felt tired, unready, or small.
Thank You for the leaders and friends who walked with me.
Keep shaping me into someone who walks closely with You, and faithfully with others.
Watch over every step.
In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
